Text Box: Puppy Watch

Pups at 8 weeks will normally require 3 or 4 meals a day and it’s at least 16 weeks before the bladder is under full control.

Exercise and fresh air is essential for a young puppy to strengthen bones and for the development of strong lungs. Being in public places  also allows him/her to interact with people and get used to the noises of traffic and life in general. It also helps prevents shyness, which is primarily caused by isolation as a pup, although is also a trait that can be inherited.

He/she should be exercised daily if possible, with a side benefit being that he will sleep well and not get bored, which is the main cause of bad habits and destructive behaviour. When they are very young, puppies will get this exercise from playing.

If your puppy hasn’t had his final Parvo shot, he could still benefit from being taken around in arms and in the car before he has completed his jabs. Experiencing many sounds sights and noises is imperative to help him develop into a well balanced and well behaved dog.

When dogs get old, their needs are not dissimilar to puppies: they need shorter walks, may have trouble controlling their bladder for long periods, and so on.  They service is therefore available to your older pets too.
